Daniel Wampole - Elias Van Scoter families

The Wampole and Van Scoter (VanBenSchoten) Families were
first united when Elias and Jane (Foote) Van Scoter's son, Endress
Van Scoter, born Sept 29, 1847 South Danville, NY. married on
27 Dec. 1863 to Catherine Lucina Wampole, daughter of
Daniel and Margaret (Fox) Wampole. There were no
children from this marriage.

During the Civil War, Endress enlisted in the Army at Madison,
WI, on Jan. 1, 1864 at age 16. He is described in his military
records as 6'4" tall, light complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair.

Endress wa a Private in Co. E-1st Regiment of the Wisconsin
Calvary Volunteers. He was stationed in TN and took part in
some of the battles in TN, and was chosen to go with General
Sherman to Georgia. Endress received a gunshot wound in his
leg during a battle near Dalton, GA.

Endress was captured at Varnel Station and taken to the
infamous Andersonville Prison on May 9, 1864. Thus, he
was not with Sherman's march to the sea and burning of Atlanta.

Endress Van Scoter died at Andersonville Prison of gangerine on
Sept. 10, 1864, just 19 days shy of his 17th birthday.

The second Wampole -Van Scoter union was that of Catherine
aka Katherine Van Scoter (VanBenSchoten) , born 28 Oct 1849,
parents Elias and Jane (Foote) Van Scoter. Catherine married
(1) George Washington Wampole b 1847 in NY.
(2) Thomas Jefferson Wampole b 17 May 1854, WI.

Catherine and George Wampole lived in Waushara County, WI
when their first child Adelbert was born in 1868, They were living in
Minnesota when their second child Thaddeus was born in 1870.
They returned to Waushara Co. WI where three daughters were
born. They seperated and divorced. Catherine married as her
second husband (2) Thomas Jefferson Wampole, brother of
her first husband George. They were married in 1883, and they
lived at Merrillan, WI, where their three children were born.

Thomas Wampole died 10 Dec 1924 (cerebral hemmorage) at age 70
in the home of his daughter Clara Edmundson, Madison, WI.

Catherine died 28 August 1939 at the home of her son Robert Elias
Wampoole, at Fairchild, WI. when she was aged 90.

Abraham Wampole

Abraham (aka Abram) Wampole born 15 Sept 1824, Caniseto,
NY, died 26 June 1915 at age 90. Son of George and Elizabeth (Doughty)
Wampole.

Abraham married (1) Sarah Buck in Steuben County, NY.
She died abt two years later.

Abraham married (2) Flora Switer.
In 1877 they were living at Wautoma, WI near his brother Daniel
Wampole.

Abraham married (3) an elderly widow at Dickenson County, Iowa

Nebraska.

*previous researchers had difficulty tracing this family.

About 3 years after George Frederick Wampole was born in 1877,
the family left for Broken Bow, Nebraska where they remained
for many years.

Abram served in the Civil War before his first marriage. By trade
he was a gunsmith and a jeweler.

G. Walter Shumway

Post Office Address, Painesville,Ohio. R.F.D. No. 5.
Its location is South Ridge Road, corner of Lane Road, one and
one-quarter miles from Lane Station, Stop 7, of the electric
Railway. Soil products are general in character, but Mr. Shumway
is a breeder of thoroughbred Jersey stock, all registered, and
including on an average 30 head. The dairy product averages
about seven and one-half gallons of cream per day.

The water supply is obtained from wells and springs by windmill
power. Its name is derivedfrom location, the view from the farm
buildings being extremely picturesque. Building improvements
are of a high class including cement floors in cattle barn, a vitrified
block silo, smoke house, poultry house, dairy house and a modern
farm residence of twelve rooms. The farm's surface is mostly level
with southern exposure, commanding a fine view of the country.
The owner of this farm is considered one of the practical and
successful farmers of the County.

Lydia A. Wampole Shumway

Lydia Wampole was born ---, parents Daniel Wampole and
Margaret (Fox) Wampole, married (1)____________
From marriage and birth records at Wauoma, Waushara Co. WI
researcher Ida (Wampole, Gunderson) Buend found that Lydia
was married before she married (2) Stephen Shumway at
Wautoma, WI.

Children:
1. Clara _____ born
married (1) ____Hartman. There were children of this marriage.
Clara married (2) ___Williams. They lived in Dakota Territory
and later moved to the Ozarks, and were not heard from again.


Lydia (Wampole, __) married (2) Stephen Shumway.
CHILDREN:
1. Carl Shumway - Carl moved to the Dakota's and Lydia moved with him and
his family.
2. Walter Shumway -married Lucinda Bellinger from Nevada, they lived
for a short while in South Dakota in the early 1900s.
3. Wesley Shumway - Wesley never married, died at Wausau, WI.

Martha Ann Wampole

Martha Ann Wampole b 1823, Caniseto, Steuben County, NY,
died 26 June 1915, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Doughty)
Wampole.

Martha Ann was married (1) to ___ Wolsey.
Children:
1. Charles Wolsey b 1851.
(He and his mother were living with his Uncle Frederick Wampole,
but previous researchers found no trace was found of Charles
after age 2 1/2.)

Martha Ann Wampole married (2) to Luther Ford
Children:
2. Hannah Ford b December 11, 1854
*Hannah was born 3 1/2 months after her father Luther Ford died.

Martha Ann Wampole married (3) Samuel Fauver
*She was his 3rd wife.

Children:
3. Emmett Fauver born 1860
4. Emery Fauver born 1863

Martha Ann (Wampole, Wolsey, Ford) Fauver died in 1865.
Emmett Fauver was adopted and his name changed to
Charles Rhodes. Previous researchers found no further trace of him.

Emery Fauver married and had two children. He lived at Battle
Creek, MI., and worked for the Kellogg Company.

Daniel Wambold aka Wampole

DANIEL WASHINGTON WAMPOLE

(Dau of William Fox & Elizabeth _ ) d abt 1833, near Wautoma,
WI. Census records state Margaret b in Pennsylvania.
Her parents & some of her sisters were in 1860 census at same
time as Daniel & Margaret in Butte des Morts, WI.
* Daniel Wampole m 2 more times after his wife Margaret's
death -to elderly widow women, one or both preceded him
in death, as Daniel lived his last years & died at the home
of his daughter, Loucina (Lucina) Lamp who lived at Princeton,
Wi. He was 87 years old when he died. Daniel Wampole also
served in the Civil War."
